The second cycle of studies is an extension of the first cycle subjects and examines these from historical, geographical and thematic perspectives (architecture, paintings and sculpture, for example). These are combined with appropriate practical exercises. This study cycle also includes the writing of a thesis which focuses on an archaeological, history of art or musicology subject, thus crowning the student's personal work achievement. |
The student is also required to acquire knowledge of one or two languages, according to choice. |
This programme is accessible to students holding the "candidature" academic certificate in History of Art and Archaeology, or a diploma judged to be equivalent. |
The University admission and enrolment procedures are specified under the section "Access to studies" of the web page :
The "licence" programme consists of two years of studies. During this time, the students will follow the courses of the core |
syllabus , the courses of their orientation (antiquity; middle ages, modern times and the contemporary period; musicology; mixed courses) and option s, forming a study project which must be submitted for the approval of the department council. The programme will total 120 credits (including 30 for the thesis) over the two years of studies. |
The Antiquity orientation includes fundamental subjects and offers the choice between three branches of studies : Prehistory and Anthropology, Egypt and the Ancient Orient, the Classical World. |
The options , which will be chosen from the History of Art and Archaeology programme or from elsewhere on the University programme, must complete the timetable volume of the courses to the equivalent total of 90 credits for the two year "licence" programme. |
Besides the three traditional study orientations of the department (antiquity; middle ages, modern times and contemporary period; musicology), allowances can be made in the case of a student whose interests justify it (concluding concretely in the choice of his thesis subject ) for him to exceptionally be able to select 90 credits in two years from the whole list of orientation courses (in this case : mixed orientation ). |
The programme must be submitted by 20th October , for each of the two years of the "licence" programme. Any student whose programme does not conform to the requirements or which is not handed in within the deadline, risks having his exam registration refused. |
