Aims

Detailed knowledge of a period or a theme of Egyptian art.

Content and teaching methods

The subject of the course varies each year, but often considers the art of private persons, which provides very broad documentation. The emphasis is always put on : 1°) the study of human representation: one of the objectives of art history - as in literature - is to enable humans to find their fellow creatures ; 2°) the improvement of chronology, an indispensable basis for every investigation. Problems of architecture may also be taken into account. In 2005-2006, the course presents "From Tanis to the Ptolemies. Late Period's Egypt"

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Introduction to the Pharaonic Art.

Additional illustrations will be made available for the students in order to make up for the insufficiency of publications.
