Study objectives

This programme aims to equip its future degree holders with a global knowledge of the world of the book which will prepare them to assume widely diversified jobs within the professions linked to this domain.

Admission conditions

Entrance to this programme is accessible to those holding a university degree related to Human Sciences or a degree judged to be equivalent. Students enrolled for the last year of their second university cycle (bachelor's degree) may also have access to the course. The latter can only get the master's degree one year after the bachelor's degree has been awarded.

In addition, the students must attest, either via a certificate or an exam, to having active knowledge of a second modern language (preferably English or Dutch) and to having a passive knowledge of a third modern language.

Admission procedures

The University admission and enrolment procedures are detailed in the "General Information" section on the WEB page :
http://www.ucl.ac.be/etudes/libres.acces.html

General structure of the programme

The core syllabus of the programme aims to provide basic training common to the three specialisations. These common studies allow for orientation towards the three targeted specialisations represented by the three traditional branches of the elaboration and the distribution of books, namely : the publishing (publishing houses), selling ( bookshops) and loaning (libraries) thereof.

In the final stages, the practical aspects will be examined and a working knowledge of the professional environment will be acquired, thanks to the practical tasks included during the three month apprenticeship period in a publishing house, a book shop or a library. Students will be required to do a supplementary apprenticeship in one of UCL's libraries for the final specialisation.
