Aims
For students to acquire the skill to read and discuss literary texts of a particular period in English literary history on their own, taking into account the methods of approach introduced in the classroom and applied to other texts of the same period.
Main themes
A detailed reading of a limited number of literary texts or extracts of a particular period familiarize the student with their literary conventions and innovations.
Content and teaching methods
General introduction to Shakespearian drama by studying the Elizabethan context and stage traditions, with emphasis on the relationship between Shakespeare and the cultural history of Great Britain and the European continent. The course concentrates mainly on Hamlet, King Lear and Twelfth Night.

Evaluation : written exam.
Teaching materials : Editions of the above-mentioned texts. Audio-visual material.
