The research focus offers training in research with seminars and specialised courses in the context of a particular subject area chosen by the student. The courses in this focus should be spread over the 2 blocks of the Master’s degree.
Students should choose a subject area (30 credits) from the following list:
- "Basic trends" which offers general training in philosophy research.
- "Aesthetics and philosophy" of art which offers specific training in research in this area in the context of interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with the History of Art and Musicology programmes.
- "Science, technology, society" which offers specific training in research in this area in the context of the European interuniversity programme "European Studies of Society, Science and Technology", organised by the ESST network. Students who choose this subject area may spend one term of the Master’s programme at a university in the ESST network with which UCLouvain has entered into a specific exchange programme, such as the University of Strasbourg, Maastricht University or the University of Oslo. For further information, visit the website of the ESST network or contact the International Coordinator at the School of Philosophy, Professor Peter Verdée, or UCLouvain’s ESST programme coordinator, Professor Alexandre Guay.
- "Philosophy of science" which offers specific training in research in this area in the context of an interuniversity programme which links UCLouvain, ULB (Université libre de Bruxelles) and ULiège (Université de Liège).
