Existing modules#

Depending on the physics of the model that was chosen, modules with additional features can be activated or not. For instance, a dynamic vegetation module, with growth and decay rates, slowing down the flow could theoretically be added to most models. You will find hereunder the list of modules that can be activated. These are sometimes restricted to some categories of models only.

Bank-failure operator#

This module was developed by Swartenbroekx et al. (2010). It is solely dedicated to models that include sediment and consider bed elevation changes. Its objective is to cope with bed slopes that exceed the physical limitations of the material’s properties.

The operator is based on four stability angles \(\alpha\), specified by the user and indicated in the figure below.

Stability angles for bank failure

A distinction is made between emerged (index \(e\)) and submerged (index \(s\)) cells. Cells below the water surface should have lower stability angles. Whether the cell is emerged or submerged, it has a critical angle (index \(c\)) above which the slope will fail and fall to a residual angle (index \(r\)). The collapsed material will add to the transported material.
