Our vision

In a multipolar, complex, globalized and unstable environment, the ADIV must be an important one, because they play a crucial role in safeguarding rights, of individual freedoms and the democratic development of our society. The ADIV wants to be a credible and recognized player thanks to its well-trained staff, that takes responsibility and is flexible, are adapted and modern material, its information gathering resources and its national and international partnerships. In a world that has become multipolar, complex, globalized and unstable, the SGRS must play a major role, car crucial, in the defense of individual rights and freedoms and the democratic development of our society. The SGRS wants to be a credible and recognized player thanks to its qualified staff, responsible and flexible, its adapted and modern equipment, its multi-source collection means and its national and international partnerships.
The ADIV's ambition is dynamic, to be an anticipatory and innovative organization that provides added value to customers thanks to its experience in its areas of competence, Relevant, Actionable, Timely, Impacting, and Critical Intelligence & Security guidance. The ADIV also supports Defense missions and operations on land anytime and anywhere, at sea, in the air, in space and in the cyber world. The SGRS aims to be a dynamic organization, anticipatory and innovative which brings to its customers, added value through its expertise in its areas of competence, Relevant, Actionable, Timely, Impacting, and Critical Intelligence & Security guidance. The SGRS supports, en outre, at all times and in all places, Defense missions and operations in Earth dimensions, Air, Mer, Space and Cybernetics.

Our assignments

Our missions

The ADIV is subject to the political guidelines of the Ministerial Committee for Intelligence and Security, to the democratic control of the Standing Supervisory Committee of the Intelligence Services (Committee I) and works under the auspices of the Minister of Defense. As a staff department of Intelligence and Security (ACOS IS) the ADIV is under the authority of the Chief of Defense (COURSE). The ADIV has 8 legal assignments :
  1. Looking it up, analyze and process any information relating to any activity affecting the integrity of the national territory, the military defense plans, the military-related scientific and economic potential, could threaten the execution of the armed forces' missions and the safety of Belgian nationals abroad;
  2. Immediately transmit this information to its customers;
  3. Monitoring the military safety of personnel, of the equipment, of the information, the IT support elements and the infrastructure;
  4. Carrying out the security investigations entrusted to him;
  5. The management of the Belgian military attachés and the direction of the foreign defense attachés accredited in Belgium;
  6. Ensure the organization and support of Intelligence and Security to operations;
  7. Collaborate with the other Intelligence- and Security Services, with the Federal Police and the administrative and judicial authorities;
  8. Drawing up guidelines regarding classified archives.
The SGRS is subject to the political direction of the Ministerial Committee for Intelligence and Security, democratic control of the Permanent Committee for Control of Intelligence Services (Committee R) and acts under the authority of the Minister of Defense. The SGRS, in its role as Department of Staff, Intelligence and Security (ACOS IS) is placed under the authority of the Chief of Defense (COURSE). The legal missions of the SGRS are to 8 orders :
  1. To research, analyser, process intelligence relating to any activity that could threaten the integrity of the national territory, military defense plans, the scientific and economic potential linked to Defense, the accomplishment of the missions of the Armed Forces and the security of Belgian nationals abroad;
  2. Provide this information without delay to its customers;
  3. Ensure that the military security of personnel is maintained, equipment, informations, information supports and infrastructure;
  4. Carry out the security investigations entrusted to him;
  5. Manage Belgian defense attachés and support foreign defense attachés accredited in Belgium;
  6. Organize and provide Intelligence and Security support to operations ;
  7. Cooperate with other Intelligence and Security Services, with the Federal Police and the administrative and judicial authorities;
  8. Establish requirements relating to classified archives.

  1. The ADIV draws up a strategic multi-year plan and translates its policy- and action plans ” SMART” objectives.

  3. The ADIV submits to the prescribed controls in all openness and transparency.
  4. The ADIV expects you to be extremely motivated, honest and carefully trained soldier- and civilian staff and offers them clear and attractive professional prospects.
  5. Is the ADIV a “single entry point, single exit point ” organization, that of an acquaintance- and information manager, secure and robust information management, instruments for efficient operation and an office for centralized production.
  6. The ADIV groups itself around the following competence pillars: “COMMANDO”, “ANALYSE”, “SAFETY”, “HUMAN POTENTIAL”, “TECHNOLOGY”, “SUPPORT TO OPERATIONS”, “LINK” in “INFORMATION MANAGEMENT”.
  7. Is the ADIV a credible and reliable correspondent?, appreciated by both its national- as international customers and partners. The ADIV guarantees a balanced exchange of information and the development of profitable synergies.
  8. The ADIV always weighs the ” DUTY TO SHARE ” of versus they ” NEED TO KNOW “.

  11. Organizes and coordinates the ADIV, in its capacity as ACOS IS, military intelligence activities- and security community within Defense and provides advice to the ” COURSE ” about the human resources management of that community.
  12. The ADIV applies an internal and external communication policy, that honest, is omnidirectional and permanent. The ADIV recognizes and manages its external visibility.

  5. The SGRS is a “single entry point” organization., single exit point” with a knowledge and information management manager, secure and robust information management, high-performance operating tools and a centralized production office;
  6. The SGRS is structured around skills centers ; " COMMANDMENT ", « ANALYSE », " SECURITY ", " HUMAN ", « TECHNIQUE », “OPERATIONS SUPPORT”, “LIAISON” and “INFORMATION MANAGEMENT”;
  7. The SGRS is a credible correspondent appreciated by its national and international clients and partners., which ensures and develops balanced exchanges of information and develops profitable synergies;
  8. The SGRS always evaluates “DUTY TO SHARE” vs “NEED TO KNOW”;
  9. The SGRS regularly invests consistently and consistently in its resources following its strategic plan and action plans.;
