“Classified”

Introduction

This part of the site houses the exhibition “Classified: The history of the Belgian military intelligence and security service“.

The exhibition “physique” was held from 6 november to 6 December 2015 at the Veterans Institute-INIG in Brussels. It offered a varied route: part of the exhibition space was devoted to the origins of the service, the role of women in intelligence, as well as the representation of espionage in popular culture. Two themes then evoked the Cold War : the stay behind network set up clandestinely with the support of Belgian intelligence to prepare the country for a possible occupation by the Soviet Union and the ‘Binet affair’, named after this Belgian officer who sold military documents to Eastern agents, who was unmasked at the end of the years 1980. In its last part, “Classified” addressed the technical means and current challenges of SGRS.
