Born of a long process of internal reflection, “Cubes.net” is a related application to “Quetelet.net”. Indeed, when the tables are encoded in Quetelet and migrated to the consultation database, it then becomes possible to query the data over the long term. Nevertheless, the request module is quite difficult to access for an average user, who has not worked in the encoding database beforehand. This difficulty had to be overcome to give access to the application to a wide audience.. In countries at the forefront of statistical research, it turned out that the results are presented in the form of Cubes. Thanks to these, we can answer the question, what was impossible or largely abstract with the query interface.

Hence the creation, in 2013, of « cubes.quetelet .net », independent website of Quetelet.net which allows you to query a set of consistent data, an assembled result obtained in the consultation space. The cube is created from the downloadable .csv file at the end of a query, which allows its creator to select consistent areas of the statistic himself. This file is then simply implemented in the application. The cube once created is found in a private collection. The statistics have been encoded in French, but the translation system is already in place, which allows you to create multilingual cubes. The new .csv file, downloadable from cube, can then be used as a pivot table by any statistical software. It is then possible in a few clicks to generate, from the result of a cube, a map or graph, which gives an additional dimension to the source data.

The decision was therefore made to only give access to the cubes to the different users. Many cubes have already been created and are available on the site. Nevertheless, it is always possible for the user to contact the CHDJ research team to establish and generate cubes specific to his research.

Since 2015, the user has access to the sources, i.e. to the “scan” of the .pdf of the statistical volumes. It is therefore possible to see how the data provided by the cube is calculated by simply clicking on the figure concerned.
