The Research Repository in a nutshell
The Repository is a bibliographic directory currently containing nearly 7000 references relating to the history of law and justice of 1795 to the present day. Some of these references have been digitized and OCRized (for the list see below).
How does it work?
- "Recherche simple" (simple search) or "avancée" (advanced search): these two types of search make it possible to cross-reference the encoded metadata as well as to carry out a search in the document if the latter is available (advanced search –> document). It is also possible to carry out a search on one or more encoded keywords (uncontrolled Keywords). As far as possible, these keywords have been encoded in French, in Dutch and English. Their number has been deliberately limited. You will find the list here.
- "Recherche par année" (browse by year): we hear by “année"” that of publication, writing or creating a reference. Attention: for references that involve a time interval (like periodicals), only the publication start date is included in the field “date”. The interval will be mentioned in the field “additional information”.
- "Recherche par subject (browse by subject): this research is done through a tree structure of themes related to the history of law and justice in Belgium from 1795 to the present day. Go through the list and click once on the topic that interests you. The list comprises nine chapters which each contain four sub-levels. Each encoded reference is classified in one or more sub-levels in order to facilitate searches that would combine, for example, a geographical approach, thematic and chronological. Sub-levels only appear when at least one reference has been attached to them. The encoding by subject being partially subjective, it is advisable to carry out research combining several angles.
- "Recherche par auteur" (browse by author): includes both the authors (“creator”) that scientific publishers (“editor”). Archive producers and institutional authors (“corporate creator”) are not included in search results by author.
