2018 IEEE/ICTEAM Best Master’s Thesis Award

Each year, the UCL IEEE Student Branch, composed of ICTEAM PhD students and supported by both the IEEE and the ICTEAM, organizes a contest for rewarding the best master’s theses in its fields of interest. The goals of the contest are twofold:

  • First, to reward outstanding works from both technical and presentation-wise perspectives. To this end, a jury of researchers reads the abstracts, attends the master thesis presentations and interviews the participants. The three best candidates will receive a monetary reward.
  • Second, to recommend potential candidates for an international contest: the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest. IEEE’s Region 8 spans Europe, Africa and the Middle-East. We have had several successes at this Student Paper Contest, reaching the top 3 in previous years. More info can be found here.

Congratulations Benjamin !

The IEEE R8 Student Paper Contest just took place at Melecon 2018 in Marrakech (Morocco). This year, it was Benjamin Chiêm who had the difficult task of representing UCL. In the end, Benjamin ranked second with his thesis “Structural classification of structural brain networks reveals gender differences“. Congratulations to him and to all other participants ! Final round for ClubElec’s Student Contest

A few months ago, the ClubElec launched its project of the semester based on the design of an RF receiver. This project was somewhat special as it ended with a small contest for the participants. The goal was simple : locating a beacon hidden in Louvain-la-Neuve using the RF receiver that they had designed. This final round took place on April 25th and gathered many participants. Industry lecture : EVS “Machine learning techniques for image processing”

The UCL IEEE Student Branch is glad to invite you to a presentation given by a major player of the image industry in Belgium and worldwide, EVS :

“Machine learning techniques for image processing”

EVS is a company based in Seraing (Liège) that is a globally recognized leader for live outside broadcast digital video systems. While its headquarters are in Belgium, the company has multiple offices around the globe and provides services in more than 100 countries. This presentation given by Dr. Olivier Barnich will be the opportunity to present some of their research activities in the field of image processing.

Lecture : Frédéric Crevecoeur “Rapid delay compensation during closed loop control of eye and arm movements”

2017 IEEE/ICTEAM Best Master’s Thesis Award

1. Context & Awards 
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is known as the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of technology. The ICTEAM (Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics) is home for more than 40 professors and 200 researchers, most of them being IEEE members. The institute conducts research in a variety of fields investigated by IEEE members worldwide.
