This programme is accessible to university graduates in Law, Psychology, Sociology or Medecine who wish to obtain training in Criminology to complete their basic graduate studies. |
Admission conditions|
The Master's programme of Criminology is accessible to : |

|
a) University graduates (or bachelors) in Law, Psychology, Educational Sciences or Sociology or Doctors in Medecine from UCL. |
||
|
b) University graduates in Law, Psychology, Educational Sciences, Sociology or Medecine from another university, either from Belgium or abroad, upon analysis of their individual case and on condition they have obtained the necessary authorisation from the School Council of Criminology. |
||
|
c) University graduates from other subjects than those mentioned in a) and b), subject to examination of their application on a case by case basis. |
Admission procedures|
All interested candidates need to present their application to the School President for analysis for admission. |
||
|
Foreign students need to introduce their application via The UCL secretary's office for students, with the help of the enrolment form entitled: "Admission application for foreign graduates." |
General structure of the programme|
The master of Criminology programme consists of two years of studies and totals 120 credits. For university graduates (or bachelors), admission may be personalised (art. 60 to 62 of the decree). Candidates who manage to have their equivalences validated may obtain special dispensations for a maximum of 60 credits. These students will thus be able to benefit from a reduction in the duration of studies in proportion with the number of credits recognised for admission to the programme. |

|
Students who carry out a professional activity may be given authorisation to spread the one year study programme over two academic years. |

Preparation and supervision structure for apprenticeship |
||
|
Each apprenticeship period is accompanied by a supervision session for which the student needs to register at the beginning of the year. These supervision sessions help the student to discuss and evaluate his experiences on the field with the lecturers and other fellow students. They also help to foster critical analysis of social and penal practices. |
||
|
The evaluation is conducted jointly by the academic tutor and the local supervisor, in the presence of the students. |
||
|
The final course project takes the form of a scientific report linked to a scientific issue in connection with the work experience on the one hand and with the practical aspects of the work experience on the other hand. The scientific subject is chosen by the student in agreement with the academic tutor. If the student is exempt from doing the apprenticeship, the final course project will then take the form of a thesis. |
||
Positioning of the degree within the University cursus|
Holders of the master's degree in criminology, obtained with at least a distinction, may enrol for a DEA in Criminology. |
