Aims
The student will be capable of :
-describing the principal steps that lead to contemporary semiotics ;
-using different concepts in literary semiotics ;
-using concepts in formal textanalysis, structural textanalysis, narratology...
-having a critical point of view about the evolution of literary semiotics ;
-choosing the right concepts and methods for a personal textanalysis.

I. Origins of semiotics (Saussure, Pierce)
II. Introduction to the main concepts of formal and structural textanalysis, and of narratology
III. Contemporary semiotics and theories of reading
IV. Examples of textanalysis
Content and teaching methods
The main features of this object called "book" will be observed and the sequence of technical processes which give shape to it will be described, from the graphic elaboration to the typographic composition, from the architecture of the cover to the production of the text, from the hardback to the paperback edition.
