Many diseases affect the composition of the CSF. The analysis of the CSF sampled by lumbar punction may help to diagnose:

The choroid plexus produce approximately 500 ml of CSF per day. The ventricular system contains about 140 ml of CSF. This volume is completely renewed several times a day.
