transverse plane passing through the atlanto-occipital articulations and the inferior limit of the decussation of pyramids
- Limit between the medulla oblongata
and the pons:
sulcus (clearly marked on the anterior surface) at the level of the middle part of the basilar part of the occipital bone
- Inferior part (1/4): in the space between the foramen magnum and the superior edge of the posterior arch of C1
- Superior part (3/4): in the foramen magnum and the posterior cranial fossa, on the inferior half of the basilar part of the occipital bone
- Axis: 35° tilted forward
