Retour en début de pageStudy objectives

At the end of their training, students will have acquired the knowledge and skills required for the critical analysis of theatrical creation and the performing arts. They will have mastered the research skills and key concepts when it comes to addressing their current or future job, whether this be as a playwright, actor, director, teacher, cultural administrator, drama critic, writer, scenographer, compere, etc.

They will have acquired these skills through theoretical training accompanied by practical work and supervised internships in the professional milieu. Depending on the focus chosen, they will have developed, amongst other things:
- advanced research skills regarding the theatrical phenomenon in its numerous dimensions;
- skills in teaching theatre (secondary school, academies, etc);
- specialist skills in the fields of directing and dramatic art.

Teaching method

Retour en début de pageStrong points of the pedagogical approach

The aim of the course is not to cover all theories and domains, but rather to give students a working method and research skills to acquire new knowledge, and the critical concepts to tackle their own job in their own way. Performing arts will be addressed in a pluridisciplinary fashion, via dialogue with disciplines which analyse theatrical creation according to their own point of view: playwrighting, sociology, psychology, history, aesthetics, law, management, etc. Emphasis is placed on individual research and work, communicating knowledge and sharing results. Within a programme of a reflective nature, we will focus on dialogue with the theatrical practice, via the analysis, beyond literature, of the many facets of performance, by encouraging individual written work, games, producing, directing, scenography, multi-media, etc., and finally giving the student real life work experience through internships or giving them the chance to create their own work in cultural institutions.

Retour en début de pageEvaluation

Evaluation is consistent in its diversity: written or oral exams, continuous marking, presence and participation in courses, individual written or oral work, file and interview for internships, continuous assessment, marking of progress made in research methodology.

Courses are evaluated according to current university regulations (see General Examination Regulations). Students may find further information on specific evaluation methods in the course descriptions.

Mobility and/or international links
The course has an international aspect thanks to its foreign teachers and students from across the globe. This diversity is a daily source of vitality and enrichment.
Foreign holders of a doctorate enrol on the master programme to gain a deeper theoretical grasp of the subject and learn about a new cultural field.

Core courses
Le tronc commun constitue la formation de base obligatoire (75 crédits). Axé principalement sur la théorie des arts du spectacle, il comporte aussi une initiation à la pratique.
