Admission procedure

The regular conditions and admission applications are detailed on the web page "Access to studies" : http://www.ucl.ac.be/etudes/libres/acces.html

General structure of the programme

The programme objective is to develop skills in the domain of geography and most particularly in the studies on the interactions between the human, geographical space and natural environment activities.

The studies are approached equally from the point of view of human geography as that of physical geography, in a special effort to integrate these two perspectives. The programme equally focuses on the perfecting the geographical techniques necessary for solving this problem.

The programme comprises a collection of courses divided into four modules :

  • Human Geography
  • Physical Geography
  • Analysis Techniques
  • Integrated practical work and General Courses

Emphasis is placed on ongoing evaluation of acquired knowledge and on the student taking responsibility for his own learning.

120 credits are divided up across the different courses depending on the amount of work required. (One credit takes into account all the study activities inherent to the course : theory, practical tasks, personal pieces of work, bibliographic research, exams and exam preparation).

Each year is divided up as per the trimestrial calendar established by the University.

10 credits worth of options must be chosen in the first term of the second year. The end of course thesis represents 22.5 credits. The student will choose the subject right from the second term of the first year. The choice of the director of the thesis and the options must be approved by the Geography Committee.
