Aims

The acquisition of a specific research technique: the interview.
At the end of the course, the students should be able to choose the method of interview best suited for their aims of research and they should be able to prepare, realize and analyze the interviews.

Main themes

The different methods of qualitative interview (more or less directive interviews, life narration, focus group, ethnographic interview...) are presented and compared. The concrete carrying out will also be studied in detail with practical exercises for the various stages of an inquiry by interviews: preparation (design of the grid and writing of the questions, constitution of the sample and ways to meet the questioned persons), realization (running, interventions) and analysis (methods of content analysis, presentation of the results).
Discussion on the status of the material gathered.

Content and teaching methods

The seminar is centered on the learning and acquisition of a particular technique of research, the realisation and analysis of interviews.
It consists in fact of theoretical lectures and of active involvment of the students having to realize exercises of realization and analysis whose methodological relevance will be discussed.
The seminar is preferentially centered on the research projects undertaken for their final work (mémoire).
Special attention will be given to the comprehensive interview and its running in the various stages (grid, conduct, analysis)
