Aims

At the end of this program the student must realize that the practice of medicine has to take into account many societal dimensions and rules; care and cure have ethical, deontological, legal, economical and public health dimensions.
The student faced with the clinical problems must be able to rise and formulate the appropriate questions in the fields of ethics, deontology, law, economics and public health.

Main themes

The meaning of disease for the patient and the clinician, the respect of the patient in his body and freedom, the responsibility of the care giver, the promotion of health, the patient's education, mistakes and fault in medical practice, national health organisation, the founding of national resources for medical care, the quality of care and the quality of health, equity in the use of resources for medical care

Content and teaching methods

The student is introduced to the various field of the context of medical practice. The theoretical approach is multidisciplinary and interactive. Each problem is approach through the analysis of reported clinical cases and discussed with the students with professionals of various discipline: clinicians, lawyer, ethician, public health specialist…

Evaluation is based on the analysis of a reported clinical situation with open questions assessing both basic knowledge and analysis capability.
