Aims

Provide a foundation course in Dutch syntax and in contrastive linguistics Dutch-French. The students should also be able to analyse reference books with a criticizing mind.

Main themes

1. The course covers two linguistics fields: Dutch syntax and contrastive linguistics Dutch-French.
2. Introduction to the reading (and writing) of scientific articles.
3. Presentation of reference books.

Content and teaching methods

The course is an introduction to Dutch syntax (grammatical categories, syntactic functions, word groups; simple and complex sentences) and to contrastive linguistics Dutch-French

Prerequisite : GERM 1333.
Assessment: written and oral exam (+ extended essay).
Teaching materials : 'syllabus' and scientific articles available from the teacher.
