Aims

At the end of the course, the students should be able :
- to hold off from their practices and from the situations they could face as future specialists in education sciences,
- to rend them over in an evolutive context by evidencing the continuities and the discontinuities,
- to outline the factors that could render an account of these (dis)continuities.

Main themes

The course will propose :
- an introduction to the evolution of education (in the widest sense of the word),
- the access in the " thickness of time ", i.e. in keeping in mind : * the various temporalities that can be isolated in the field of education, * the perceptible continuities and discontinuities, and * the factors that can render an account of it, * a reflection on the status of the historical knowledge and on its modes of acquisition.

Content and teaching methods

After some reminders of general history, particularly about the breaches in the XVIth and XXIst centuries, the course will tackle all the aspects of the educational process, from the informal education inside the family or by peers, up to the radical formalisation of all the areas of educational activity at the end of XXth century, passing namely by the supervisory techniques and the types of non academic vocational training.
