Aims

The aim of the seminar is to encourage students to reflect thoroughly on certain topics of the legal branch concerned, the theoretical bases of which were taught during the first years of the teaching programme. The chosen topic varies from year to year. It is sufficiently general to be subdivided into about fifteen subjects closely related to a common issue.

Main themes

The method itself requires two types of work from students: on the one hand, an oral presentation during the year of the results of their research into an assigned topic; on the other hand, a text must be handed in, in which students can systematise and summarise their subjects and consider the results of the discussions and debates following their presentations and those of the other participants in the seminar. The seminars start at the beginning of the academic year. Of course, the first oral presentations only take place during the second term. In the first term, the different themes to be analysed are prepared by each student. However, at regular intervals, each participant must report on the progress in his research as well as the questions and difficulties encountered. This work is thus based on teamwork, to permit co-ordination.

During the first term, some of the seminars are also dedicated to listening to a lecture on a subject closely related to the theme of the seminar. The specialist can be a member of the Faculty or an outsider. The seminar is graded for each student. The grade takes into account the work done during the year, actual participation in the work and debates, and the quality of the oral presentation of the text handed in at the end of the year.
