Knowledge of the general outlines, important principles and great figures of music from 1600 till today.
Main themes
Application of acquired knowledge : by thorough analysis of some of the great works from the lyric repertoire from 1600 till today. The programme varies from year to year.
Content and teaching methods
Historical introductions and analyses of different music scores. Privileged field : the opera from 1600 till today, with viewings and analyses of numerous television productions.

Knowledge of the great works of opera and the complete Avant-Scène Opera collection.
Oral and written presentation of two assignments about the important lyric works (one chosen within the field studied that year, the other outside of it).
Reference, materials : Personal collection of Prof. Ph. Mercier (more or less 800 lyric videocassettes) plus course book.
Salle de Musique b.140 (Erasme) with adapted equipment (big video screen etc.).
