 Aims
Objectives :
- Acquire notions in history of music, from the 18th century till today.
- Be able to place and recognize the principal music forms and major styles.
- Knowledge of the key works of the history of music (from the 18th century till today).
- Be able to link the evolution of music, plastic arts, literature and the major trends of thought.
Main themes
The principal stages of history of music will be studied, illustrated by the analysis of key works, pointing out the transformations, and stylistic and aesthetic evolutions of the works. Special attention will be paid to placing the works studied in context.
Content and teaching methods
Classical division of the subject : Baroque era, Classical era, Romantic era, national schools, Post-Romanticism, Impressionism, the major trends of music of the XXth century, music today (evaluation and perspectives).
Method : lectures illustrated by music samples.
