Résumé
The comparative suffix in Ukrainian seemingly has four allomorphs: the productive form –iš, and the non-productive forms –š, –č, and –šč. This paper is based on a claim by Bevzenko (1960) that the suffixes –č and –šč are derived from –š, being a result of assimilative-dissimilative changes. As a result, the number of suffixes can be reduced to two, namely –š and –iš. I will show that the distribution of these two suffixes in Ukrainian is not regulated by phonology.
