General training courses in the first semester of the first year of the Bachelor's programme are common to all students in the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts and Letters. This makes it easier to change to another programme in the Faculty at the end of this semester.

Mandatory Specific training
Students must choose one Germanic language (English, Dutch or German) and one Romance language (French, Spanish or Italian). The combinations German-Italian and Dutch-Italian are not available. In the first annual block, they must choose 20 credits per language. In the second annual bloc, they must choose 20 credits per language. In the third annual bloc, they must choose a minimum of 15 credits in each language; this choice is submitted for approval to the jury (small panel).
