Master in Electrical Engineering [120.0] - ELEC2MThe Master in Electrical Engineering is a comprehensive program whose purpose is to introduce students to extremely varied and specific areas of application. The aim of the program is to produce engineers who are able to respond to future technological challenges in the domains related to electricity and its applications, in a rapidly evolving European and global context. It opens a range of opportunities in terms of professions.
On completion of their Master, the students will master the mathematical and physical methods of electricity (circuits and measurements, electromagnetism, physical electronics) and will have acquired a thorough training in at least one field of electricity (electronics, telecommunication and signal processing, electrotechnics), as well as a solid background in the others. By means of the major place left for options, students can opt for a broad profile or a more specialised one in a specific field.
By means of a teaching approach which promotes projects involving a variety of subjects, the program aims to develop critical thinking in students enabling them to develop, model, produce and experimentally validate devices, equipment and complex systems. General presentation of the programmeThe Master’s curriculum in Electrical engineering will require a minimum total of 120 credits covering two years, with a minimum of 60 credits per year, and comprising :
- a core curriculum of 30 credits - a specialisation (30 credits) - one or more of the 10 options offered in:
EEA (electrotechnology – electronics – automation) Telecommunication Information and signal processing Communication networks Hyperfrequencies Electronic circuits and systems Nanotechnology MEMS and NEMS Biomedical engineering Management Setting up of small and medium-sized businesses (limited entry)

The final thesis is generally written during the last year. However, students may choose to take any given course in the first or second year, subject to possible prerequisites. This will be the case in particular for students pursuing part of their education abroad. If, in the course of his (her) former curriculum, a student has already been credited with a subject included in the compulsory core curriculum, or any training deemed equivalent, this subject will be replaced by any elective course within the imposed constraints. The student is responsible for checking whether the minimum total number of credits has been reached, as well as those of the specialized field, which will appear on the final diploma. The student’s curriculum will be scrutinized for acceptance by the Architecture engineering diploma committee. PhD programmes The department of electricity is one of the departments which has a large number of PhD students. The members of the department participate in various thematic doctoral schools, a number of which have been going for years, while others are being established.
