Gabriela Ishikawa

PhD Student (2026-)

I am a PhD student at Université Catholique de Louvain under co-supervision of Benoit Delhaye and Greet Kerckhofs. My research investigates how the fingertip's internal microstructural organization shapes external mechanical loads into localized internal deformation. To understand this phenomenon, my work aims to build the first fingertip model grounded in measured 3D internal microstructure and validated against measured internal deformation. By measuring the 3D internal microstructure of the intact fingertip using CECT and cryo-CECT, and combining 4D-CECT imaging of the fingertip with digital volume correlation to capture the internal strain under load, I aim to feed these experimental data into an anisotropic finite-element model capable of reproducing it.
