GUI Client

The Highlander client is multiplatform (works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux).

All you need is an access to a running Highlander database.
Java is bundled with the Highlander installer, but on some system you may need to install a separated version (JRE version 8 or above, 64 bits).
See installation instructions for details, and troubleshooting if you encounter errors.

Software necessary for administration

To use the Highlander client, you need a working local Highlander database (and associated NGS pipeline) which is not provided as a "turnkey solution". Different Highlander databases and pipelines are currently available at UCLouvain (de Duve Institute), Saint-Luc Hospital, Erasme Hospital and UZ Brussel.

MySQL database

Highlander keeps all variant data and annotations in a MySQL database.
MySQL Community Server 5.5 (or above) must be installed, on any computer accessible to the clients, and the following schema must be imported.

Highlander Administration Tools (GUI)

Highlander Administration Tools allow to manage the database and import samples. The GUI is multiplatform (works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux). Java is bundled with the installer, but on some system you may need to install a separated version (JRE version 8 or above, 64 bits).
