The bachelor's programme of Theology aims to provide a thorough grounding in theological reflection. In these studies, the student will be confronted with the foundations of theological reflection ; he will become acquainted with the working tools which will equip him with a specific and rigorous approach to studying the texts of the Bible and tradition, the historical roots of the questions which are posed and the present-day thinkers who endeavour to supply the answers. Focus is placed on the acquisition of working methodology specific to the great domains of theology.

The bachelor's of Theology (180 credits) is composed of one single line of studies (major), common to all, with the possibility of choosing a minor in another subject. The study activities foster interaction between the (teams of) instructors and students via lectures, individual and group projects and supervised tasks.

The bachelor's of Theology covers general academic training in every domain of theology : a methodological, historical and theological introduction to the Old and New Testament : a synopsis of the knowledge from the past of which we are the heirs, an exploration of the mystery of the Revelation in tune with the current lines of thinking of theological dogma; Christian existence; pastoral reflection and ministry.

The programme likewise comprises initiation into the main branches of Philosophy; an introduction to Psychology, Sociology, Religious Art, Non-Christian Religions and Religious Sociology. It provides the possibility to acquire or improve knowledge of those ancient and modern languages necessary for the critical analysis of sources of Christian faith and of contemporary reflection.

The single course of the major totals 150 credits. For the remaining 30 credits, the student will opt for a minor of his choice

( Philosophy and other sciences, useful for the studies in Theology, are highly recommended). If the student so wishes, he may also take complementary courses in Theology and Religious Sciences for a total of 30 credits.

The Faculty of Theology gives the students the opportunity to complete part of their studies abroad (via the Erasmus or Mercator exchange schemes) from the third year of the bachelor 's of Theology.

• Historical Criticism and History of Christianity, 18 credits
• History of Religions (Judaism, Islamism, Oriental Religions), 8 credits
• Reflection on Dogma (foundations of Theological Reflection ; God and Man, Christ, the Church, the Sacraments), 26 credits
• Ethics (Foundations in Morality ; Questions on Society, Family Ethics, Bioethics), 14 credits
• Spiritual Theology, 3 credits
• Practical Theology and Human Sciences, 12 credits
• Philosophy (Introduction, Anthropology, Metaphysics, Epistemology), 15 credits
• Ancient Languages (Biblical Greek and Christian Latin), 12 credits
• (Choice of a) Modern Language, 6 credits
• Heuristics and final dissertation, 10 credits.

The student may choose a minor (30 credits) from a programme from a different Faculty. If so desired, he may complete his programme with other courses in Theology for a total of 30 credits.

The evaluation will be conducted by means of the most appropriate forms of assessment decided on by the lecturers, in coherence with the objectives outlined in the course specifications.

The bachelor's programme of Theology entitles direct access to the master's of Theology.

Subject to certain prerequisites, the bachelor's of Theology entitles access to the master's of Biblical Studies
