Aims

By the end of the seminar, the student should be capable of understanding and appreciating the ins and outs of the difficult relations between Judaism and Christianity from the origins until today. Students should be able to grasp the constants and recent evolutions in perspectives for inter-religious dialogue.

Main themes

Content and teaching methods

The first sessions, lectures, announce the object and method. The subjects proposed to participants touch on various historical moments (origins, patristics, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, national, Conciliar and pontifical ecclesiastical documents) and themes (messianism). For each subject, a starter bibliography is provided. At the end of the exposés, the other students are invited to react in terms of their own areas of competence. The instructor points out elements of comparison which might have escaped notice.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Prerequisite: an initial introduction to Judaism
Evaluation is based on active participation in the seminar (a text written with this participation in mind) and on communication on documents (commented interpretation).
