Aims

Using an analytical perspective, to understand the processes and problems of development-population-environment interactions in their historical and spatial context, based on a comparative analysis and study of different geographical areas.

Main themes

A comparative analysis of development processes in interaction with the population and the environment, and highlighting the importance of the long-period dimension in linking the political, social and economic structures of a process of development, and the specific features of the various processes flowing from the uniqueness of this linkage.
A comparative examination of the problems and policies of development-population-environment integration in the specific context of each of the geographical areas studied.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

The course has been designed from an inter-disciplinary and integrated standpoint. It will also be delivered jointly by three tenured teachers representing each of the three subjects (i.e. development, population and the environment), and specialists in one of the geographical areas under examination. It will be coordinated by one of them, a permanent member of the SPED, who will be in charge of the first part, and will have the task of stimulating exchanges by the tenured teachers, ensuring that the teaching is consistent, planning the involvement of outside speakers, and coordinating the assessment.
The assessment will be carried out on the basis of individual work, and will also include Course DEMO 3200.
