Aims
At the end of the course, the student:
- will be familiar with the principal aspects and stages of the history of Spain from the 6th to the 17th century,
- will be able to situate in its historical context a literary or artistic work of the period in question.
Main themes
The course presents a historical sequence from the 6th to the 17th century which stresses the cultural implications of social and economic political transformations.
Content and teaching methods
Panorama of the historical conditions in which the social and cultural life of Spain developed and which led to the creation of a "Hispanic community": the medieval mosaic; the presence of three cultures (Christian, Arab, and Jewish); unification at the end of the 15th century; the emergence of modern Spain. The course will be based, as much as possible, on iconographic, historical, and literary documents.

Prerequisite: Advanced Spanish level.
Oral exam in Spanish on the basis of a paper.
