Aims

The course is an introduction to descriptive statistics. It also aims at giving the grounding in scientific research methodology on the basis of the quantitative analysis of secondary data.

Main themes

The basic tools in descriptive statistics are considered in terms of utility for research : tables (frequency distribution and cross-tabulation), charts, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, indices, rates, normal distribution, ...). A critical approach is also adopted regarding the use of these tools.
