Aims
The priority in this course is the development among future teachers of the ability to identify - difficulties and obstacles involved in studying concepts in chemistry, - ethical problems associated with the development of chemistry with a view to using these to design teaching modules in line with the new science syllabi.
Main themes
Natural sciences Education focuses mainly on science teaching. The supplementary course on teaching methods in chemistry focuses primarily on the study of chemistry. In this context, the principal concepts dealt with in the chemistry syllabi for uppersecondary education(grade 15-18) will be approached from the point of view of their connections with one another. They will be related to learning difficulties experienced by pupils, as described in studies of chemistry Education and by teachers taking part in the course. Future teachers will be encouraged to gather and/or analyse data from pupils and to come up with appropriate teaching strategies.
