Aims

The main aim of this receptive course is to develop students' reading skills.

Reading comprehension
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:- grasp the content and significance of articles and reports on topics connected with their interests or their jobs.- summarise the main ideas of these texts.
Level B1 of the " Common European Framework of References for Languages "

Usage :
(1) reinforcement of basic vocabulary + (general and medical) vocabulary building
(2) grammatical and lexical difficulties

Main themes

Course description

The texts chosen will introduce students to a wide variety of topics of interest to students of Hospital Management.
The grammatical and lexical difficulties covered are:
- tenses (active and passive voices)
- modal auxiliaries
- compounds
- false friends
- prepositions
- link words

Content and teaching methods

- Code and title : ANGL 1853 English: reading comprehension.
- Year of study : HONU 1EP.
- Number of hours, rhythm, terms : 30h, 2h/week, second quadrimester.
- Aim: reading comprehension of texts in hospital management, study of general and specific vocabulary and basic
grammar.
- Evaluation : written exam

CONTENT
Portfolio of authentic texts relating to Hospital Management (newspapers, magazines, encyclopedias, …).

TEACHING METHODS
Extensive reading of texts at home using reading strategies.
Content-based activities in class.
Analysis of and comments on the texts.
Lexical extension exercises and comments on language points.
