Admission conditions|
There are three access routes to the "licence" programme in Philosophy : |

General structure of the programme|
The first year consists of 450h of lectures, including a course from the XI group. |
||
|
The second year consists of 210 hours. The courses chosen must be with the agreement of the thesis promoter and the programme Committee for the below-listed subjects in such a way that at the end of the two years : |

Group IX is compulsory. |

Group X does not need to be represented, but can be ; if it is, it cannot comprise more than 90 hours in the first year and more than 60 hours in the second year. |
||
|
The second year also includes the writing of a thesis on a philosophical theme. This thesis should demonstrate the capacity of its author to correctly present the results of a personal piece of work which is both objective and methodical, the quality of which is not necessarily linked to the length. Four copies of the thesis will be handed in to the secretary of the Faculty, at least one month before the beginning of the exam session. The thesis will be defended orally by the student and assessed by three readers, including the promoter. All academic work will be done in the French language. Other languages may be chosen on condition that the lecturers have given their agreement. In addition, for the theses, DEA projects and PhD theses, the student must introduce a justified application to the Study Committee at the same time that the name of the promoter and the subject of the thesis are submitted to the secretary. The procedure for following up on such an application is available at the secretary's office. |

The students may also follow two courses in Dutch or in English at the HIW (KUL) to replace two courses given at the ISP. |

Evaluation|
Each year closes with an exam on each of the programme subjects. |

The second year includes the writing of a thesis on a philosophical question. This thesis will be evaluated by the promoter and two readers in accordance with the criteria which will be communicated to the student. It will be subjected to an oral defence. |
Positioning of the degree within the University cursus|
If obtained with distinction, the "licence" programme in Philosophy entitles access to the DEA (diploma of higher studies in Philosophy) and to the PhD programme. |
