Aims
- Basic course;
- This course aims to introduce students to the great authors of the Middle Ages and of the baroque period and to develop their literary sensibility;
- Introduction to the language of the Middle Ages.
Main themes
Lectures, using audio-visual material.
Subjects dealt with: the origins, Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio, the Petrarchans, Tasso, Ariosto, baroque theatre and opera.
Content and teaching methods
Students are introduced to the main currents in Italian literature. They also learn the development of the Italian language from the Middle Ages to the 18th century.

The course is primarily lectures. Students will frequently have to read Italian texts dealt with in the course. The texts have been prepared and discussed in ROM 2533. Students must read Pria che passin mill'anni: storia della letteratura italiana by André Sempoux.
Prerequisite:FLTR 1750 and ROM 1753, or similar course/s. The ROM 2533 course must be followed in the course of the same year.
Evaluation: Oral examination in Italian
