Aims
At the end of this course, the student:
- will be broadly familiar with continental and regional contemporary Spanish-American literature;
- will be able to analyse literary works (narrative and poetic) by situating them in their context and by identifying the aesthetic, philosophical, ideological, and/or political issues underlying them.
Main themes
The course will offer an overview of contemporary Hispano-American literature, from the "post-boom" until now, by putting forward a "red wire" which will be the subject of general theoretical consideration and of a series of particular analyses. Students will examine the historiography of contemporary literature and in particular the intertextual dimension of works and currents that appear within the framework of post-modernity in Latin America ("collage" poetry, the "new" historical novel, etc.), which will lead to a reconsideration of concepts such as multicultural identity and related to the national and continental history. These analyses will lead to a discussion of the circulation and reception of literary works in Latin America.
Content and teaching methods
The course will be based on a whole of readings for those theoretical questions examined in greater detail, as well on a series of literary works analysed in class.
