Aims
At the end of the course, the future teachers of French as a foreign language will be able to understand the phonetic and phonological difficulties experienced by non-francophones in mastering present-day Standard French and to suggest solutions to these difficulties.

- the phonetic and phonological systems of present-day Standard French;
- principal difficulties with pronunciation in present-day Standard French;
- the phonetic and phonological systems of several modern languages (Spanish, Arabic, Italian, English, German, Vietnamese, etc.);
- difficulties experienced by non-francophones in mastering French;
- suggested solutions.
Content and teaching methods
This course is intended for future teachers of French as a foreign language. It examines the difficulties faced by non-francophone students in mastering the phonetic and phonological system of present-day Standard French. In the practical part of the course (15 hours of exercises), students collect and analyse recordings of non-Frenchspeakers from different countries. They must also develop a programme designed to cope with the difficulties identified.

Evaluation: written examination. A written piece of work, dealing with the practical part of the course, is also required.
