Aims

- This course aims to introduce students to the great authors from Romanticism to the present and to develop their literary sensibility.
Main themes
Lectures, using audio-visual material.
Subjects dealt with: Manzoni, Leopardi, Verga, Pirandello, Ungaretti, Montale, Pavese, Tabucchi, and more recent writers
Content and teaching methods
Students are introduced to the main currents in Italian literature. They should also understand the development of the Italian language from the Settecento to the present day. The course is primarily lectures. Students will frequently read Italian texts dealt with in the course. The texts will have been prepared for and discussed in ROM 2533. Students will have read Pria che passin mill'anni: storia della letteratura italiana by André Sempoux.

Prerequisite: ROM 2521 and ROM 2522, or similar course/s. The ROM 2533 course must be followed in the course of the same year.
Students will frequently have to read Italian texts dealt with in the course.
Students will have read Pria che passin mill'anni: storia della letteratura italiana by André Sempoux.
Evaluation: Oral examination in Italian.
