Aims
To give students the main theoretical and methodological tools necessary for literary work.
Main themes
To present the main movements of literary criticism since the 19th century; to propose a synthetic putting into perspective of the different ways of approaching a literary text; to present the methodological tools for bibliographical research and presentation.
Content and teaching methods
From a historical and critical perspective, the course presents the main movements of literary criticism as defined by their respective practitioners (critics and writers), from Romanticism to the most recent methods of analysis. Emphasis will also be placed on mastering the main bibliographical research tools, as well as on the presentation of research data.
Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)
An anthology of critical texts will be handed out to the students. An optional seminar will be proposed for those interested in a detailed analysis of the more important and/or complicated texts. The exam will comprise two parts: the subject matter of the course, on the basis of a text taken from the anthology; a bibliographic research and presentation project on a given subject.
