Aims

The aim of the seminar is to encourage students to undertake a thorough reflection on various themes of the relevant branch of law, the theoretical bases of which were studied in previous years. The theme of the seminar changes every year. It is polyvalent enough to permit the formulation of about 20 topics closely linked by a common issue.

Main themes

Because of the method, two types of tasks are required from students: first, the oral presentation of the results of research into the theme of their own work, and second, a written text in which students can both systematize and summarise the subject and take advantage of the discussions which followed their own presentations and those of the other seminar participants. The seminar activity continues throughout the academic year. The work is partly individual and partly collective. The individual work of each student, carried out under the direction of the professor, comprises the drafting of a written report and the presentation of an oral report, which is submitted to a collective discussion. As the Faculty organises about 15 seminars with restricted access, the professors are asked during the previous year to propose three themes. All of the themes are communicated to the fourth-year students . The -themes chosen by the students are the ones retained.

Content and teaching methods

The theme of the seminar for this year is:
"Les biens immobiliers des pouvoirs publics" (2003-2004-2005): legal situation of the property owned by the authorities.
"Le recours en annulation devant le Conseil d'Etat: le point sur la compétence" (2004-2005-2006): the competence of the main administrative Court in Belgium.
The theme for next year has not yet been decided..
