Aims
- to supply basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the psychometric and edumetric models currently used for the construct of tests and questionnaires. At the end of the course, the students should know the postulates, the advantages and the limits of the models presented. They should be able to develop simple tests and to interpret correctly the results from existing tools.
Main themes
The course will present as well the classical theory of the tests (True-score theory) as the more recent psychometric and edumetric models (generalisability theory, binomial model, item response models
). The various aspects of the construct of tests and questionnaires will be tackled from theoretical and practical points of view: 1) construct of questions, 2) validation methods, 3) rating of reliability and of measuring error, 4) rating of systematic errors, 5) standardisation (sampling, definition and scale translation), 6) equating methods. The methodology of the tests construct will consider as well the standard tests as the criterion referenced tests.
The course is linked with the courses of Statistics 1 and 2 and will allow the students to use the knowledge acquired in this field in order to answer the questions about the tools of measure used in psychology and in education. In this view, they will have to work on real or simulated data.
