Aims
By the end of this course, students should have : 1) extended and consolidated their knowledge of classical Greek acquired in the first year course (BAC 1), particularly in the field of syntax; 2) acquired basics of Greek accentuation; 3) improved their Greek-French translation skills.
Main themes
1) Systematic study of Greek accentuation and extension of lexical knowledge; 2) Extension of students' comprehension of classical Greek syntax; 3) Practical exercises focusing on accentuation, conjugation and syntax; 4) Improvement of students' ability to understand, translate and give grammatical explanations of classic Greek texts.
Content and teaching methods
The course aims to build on and consolidate students' knowledge of classical Greek acquired during BAC 1. There are five main course components: 1) Lectures on the theory of accentuation, verb syntax and issues in Greek linguistics chosen by the students ; 2) Practical exercises (accentuation, conjugation and syntax) ; 3) Grammatical analysis of texts from classical Greek writers ; 4) Monitoring of student progress through regular tests (conjugation, vocabulary, accentuation and syntax) ; 5) Personal work (reading and translation into French).

Course entry requirements: GLOR 1171 Basic Greek Grammar and Text Analysis.
Evaluation: regular evaluation throughout the year (through tests and personal work). The examination consists of written and an oral components.
