Aims

A the end of the course, the student should be able :
- to structure a systematic reflection on the relations between education and economical development, employment and unemployment; technological evolutions; inequality of the chances and discrimination; inequality of incomes.
- to use some tools of economical analysis in the treatment of these problems and of problems related to the management of educational systems.

Main themes

This course will tackle:
- the economical effects of education ;
- the education as an investment in human capital;
- the financing and organisation of the educational system;
- the economical analysis of the educational politics.

Content and teaching methods

The course considers the following aspects:
- the individual benefits of education: analysis around the notion of human capital;
- the human capital and the development: theoretical survey and empirical evaluation;
- the nature of the goodness " education " and the implication in relation with the question of its financing;
- the offering of education and formation: economical analysis of the functioning and the management of education and formation systems;
- the enterprises and the formation;
- the tertiary sector as " producer " of education;
- the growing role of the competences or the question of the new inequalities.
The course proceeds through presentation and discussion of theories, concepts and methods called up by the economists of education.
These theories are discussed in the light of the results of many empirical micro and macro-analyses, realised by the economists of education, growing and work.

No particular pre-requisite.
- Individual evaluation during 45': to answer a multiple choice questionnaire on all the main points of the course.
- Sub-groups evaluation during 2h00 : to discuss an open question on some points of the course (1-2
Reading portfolio. Web page (presentation, exercises of auto-evaluation, correction of the submitted exercises...).
It follows educational methods fitted for adults including the link between theory and practice, group work, formative assessment and steps of individual and group appropriation of the contents.
Illustrations from the various fields of education and from adults formation : continuous education, specialized education, school field, etc.
