Aims

The objective of this seminar is to help students undertake an in-depth study of specific topics in a law discipline of their choice. Students will have been taught the theoretical basics during the first three years of their university degree. The seminar programme varies from one year to the next. It is sufficiently varied to allow an in-depth study of about fifteen subjects linked by a common theme.

Main themes

Students must fulfil two requirements to successfully complete the seminar. First, an oral presentation, to be given during the year, which is based on the results of research carried out on an assignment; second, a written paper in which students are given the opportunity to organise and produce a summary of the problems involved in their topic and to benefit from the discussions and debates following their own presentation, as well as those of the other seminar participants. The seminar is spread over two academic years. Students work alone and in groups.

Content and teaching methods

The individual work of each student, carried out under the supervision of the person in charge of the seminar, involves submitting a written paper and presenting a report or other work on a subject closely linked to the theme of the seminar. Each student is graded individually on the seminar. The grade takes into account the work done during the year, active participation in the assignments and discussion groups, the quality of the oral presentation and the written paper submitted by the student.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Since the Faculty organises about fifteen seminars, access to which is limited, permanent members of staff are invited to submit three topics during the year preceding that in which the seminar is to be held. These topics are conveyed to fourth-year students, enabling demand for the most popular topics to be met.
