Aims
At the end of this course, the students must be able to
- analyze the anatomical structures and the physiological characteristics of an edentulous mouth or in front of being it, and which are likely to influence the achievement or the wearing of a complete denture,
- carry out all the clinical steps necessary to the achievement and the follow-up of the prosthesis,
- guide their technicians during the laboratory steps inherent in the achievement of the prosthesis and, if necessary, to carry out themselves these works.
Main themes
To define all specificities of edentulous mouths or in front of being it, as well as all the technical means having to be implemented, at the dental office or at the laboratory, to be able to deliver the prosthesis in a satisfactory way, in the fields of the chewing, phonetics, and
esthetics.
Content and teaching methods
Contents:
This course describes step by step the sequence of the clinical sequences and the laboratory one's necessary to the achievement and the delivery of standard complete dentures or temporary ones. It includes notably a description of
- all the anatomical structures in connection with the prosthesis,
- the usable impression techniques and their treatment at the laboratory,
- the dynamics of jaw relations, their individual recording and their transfer to the laboratory,
- the various parameters allowing the choice and the set-up of the artificial teeth according to the aesthetic and functional criteria,
- all the aspects related on the try-in, the polymerization and the placement of prosthesis, as well as their maintenance and their follow-up.
Method:
- magisterial statement supported by many clinical and laboratory illustrations
- directed practical works (achievement of the main laboratory steps: individual trays, occlusion rims, transfer to articulator, set-up of the teeth according to rules of balanced occlusion)

Pre-necessary:
- basic knowledge of head and neck anatomy, prosthetic dental materials, oral surgery.
Evaluation:
- two written interrogations (November and March) free participation.
- Final oral examination after a written preparation.
- practical exercises of autonomy (without help) at various moments of the year.
- practical examination at the end of the year, on the basis of works made during the year.
