Aims

To be able : to diagnose the main dental hard tissues lesions and to select the most appropriate dental materials and techniques to restore teeth.
Practical courses will learn to use the selected techniques and materials.
This first part will be continued in BAC3.

Main themes

Theory :
Properties and techniques of placement of the esthetic restorative materials.
Diagnosis of dental caries.
Practice :
Practical use of instruments, dental materials and handpieces.
Basic techniques of treatment with esthetic materials on models.

Content and teaching methods

Contents
Esthetic dental materials : composite, glass ionomer, resin modified glass ionomer.
Physical, mechanical properties
Handling
Biocompatibility
Adhesive dentistry : Principles and Techniques.
Diagnosis of the main lesions of the dental hard tissues
Treatment of pit and fissures lesions (preventive and minimaly invasive technique)
Treatment of small approximal caries.

Theory
Lectures illustrated with slides, " power point " presentation and video.
Practice
Preclinical
Direct or video demo of the techniques.
Techniques applied on resin or natural extracted teeth.
Clinical
Passive attendance in the dental clinics of operative dentistry, endodontics, prosthetic dentistry and periodontology

Dental anatomy
Histology of tooth and mouth tissues

Evaluation
Evaluation is based on the preclinical exercises during the academic years and the final examination (15/20) and on theoretical evaluation (5/20) done during the practical examination.
