Aims

To familiarise students with the demands of daily audio visual journalism, and encourage
them to carry out a critical evaluation of their work.

Main themes

Students will be encouraged to learn about such matters as the need for messages to be
Consistent and pertinent, and the technical and time constraints of this work, and to introduce them to the basic elements of audio visual grammar in respect of televised information.

Content and teaching methods

Learning about the key elements of television grammar in respect of information,
including specific features relating to different kinds of information (e.g. radio news, short
articles, interview and auditive reporting together with the effective inclusion of theoretical aspects of language.
A growing awareness of the problems of collecting and processing information specific to
audio visual information.
Familiarisation with the technical processes of producing for television.
Methodology: Exercises, learning by trial and error, and ongoing evaluation of students.

This course requires supervision by Assistants.
